Son of Jefferson A. and Matilda Chestnut Donavan.
Married Anna Wadleigh Clark in 1903 in Chicago. She died in 1918.
Married 2: Eva Snyder on Feb. 1, 1948 in Jacksonville. She died in 1951.

Survived by two daughters: Mrs. John Peroutka of Mason City and Mrs. Claude L. Roundtree of Port Orange, FL; a son, Robert L. Donavan of Jacksonville; two step-children: Mrs. Helen Mathews of Mansfield, Ohio and Gilbert Snyder of Rockford; and a granddaughter, Ramona Roundtree of Fort Orange, FL.

Preceded by his wives; and a son that died in 1915. Name not stated.

Alex J. Donavan was a musician. He graduated the Chicago Musical College and studied at the Boston Conservatory of Music in Massachusetts. He was a member of the C. C. Jeffries Band.

In 1912, he took a job as a mail carrier and retired from the postal service in 1942.

Member of the Jacksonville Lodge 570, AF & AM, an honorary member of the Harmony Lodge #3 Jacksonville Chapter #3, Royal Arch Masons ,Jacksonville Chapter #5, Royal and Select Masters, Hospitaller Commandery #31, Knights of Templar, Springfield Consistory, 32 Degree Masons and Ansar Shrine.
