Sam was one of the many Carter County men who volunteered in 1898 to serve in the Spanish American War.After returning home, he married Lou E. Glover on New Year's Day in 1902.Lou was the daughter of John Fred Glover and Sarah Elizabeth Shull.Sam passed away in the Mountain Home Veteran's Hospital in Johnson City in 1948.
