The Rev. Everett Conley, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Magoffin County and Greenup County, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, in the VA Medical Center in Lexington following a brief illness.

The Reverend Conley was born March 4, 1923, in Argillite. He married the former Ruby Crace in 1945.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from March 1943 through February 1945. He was based in the Pacific aboard the USS San Pablo. The Reverend Conley worked for the C&O Railroad for 35 years in Toledo, Ohio, and Raceland, retiring as foreman in 1982. , 201The Reverend Conley was ordained in the Enterprise Baptist Association and served as a minister for 57 years, organizing four churches during that time. He was a member of State Road Baptist Church in Salyersville, and a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels since 1981.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laney and Ethel Conley, his wife and siblings Joe Conley, Una Schneider and Jean Adams.

He is survived by his three children, David Conley, Cecil Conley and Shebonnia Griffith; a brother, Oral Conley; five grandchildren, Zachary Conley, Nicholas Conley, Sean Conley, Emily Clark and Michael Griffith; and three great-grandchildren, Patrick Conley, Aaron Conley and Miles Clark.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. at Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup. Officiating will be Pastor James "JD" Rice and Ennis Lewis. VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, Ohio, will conduct military services at the cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
