Agnes always went by her middle name. It was only after examining her birth certificate in 2015 was her real name discovered. Her mother Theresa died when she was an infant, while her father Henry was stationed at Camp Dix. She went to live with her father's brother, George and his wife, Minnie, in Detroit, Michigan. 1930 US Census shows that George's (and William's) father was born in Michigan and Minnie's parents were born in New York, and that he was working as a foreman at a motor plant. They lived on Hazelton Street, across from the Costello family, which is how she met her future husband, Leonard. They were married May 30, 1936 in Detroit.
