PITTSVILLE — Alvin A. Thomer, 94, of 6115 County Trunk B in Pittsville, died at 6:55 p.m. April 22, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mound Cemetery in Pittsville. The Rev. Donald Wilger, Catholic Chaplin at St. Joseph's Hospital will officiate.
Hansen Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Memorials may be designated to the hospice unit of St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born July 15, 1905, in Marshfield to Anton and Mary (nee Engels) Thomer. He married Clara Klimp on Aug. 26, 1933, at Wisconsin Rapids.
Mr. Thomer was educated at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Marshfield and town of Lincoln schools. He and his family moved to the town of Lincoln where his family farmed. Following his education he helped on the family's farm and helped with the set up of the Marshfield Country Club Golf Course which was across from the family farm. Two years after their marriage, the young couple purchased a farm in the town of Cary where he farmed until his retirement. He continued living on the farm until entering the Bethel Center in March 2000.
Surviving are his daughter, Jean (Dennis) McDonald of Pittsville and his granddaughter, Michelle (Robert) Maguire of Atlanta, Ga.
He was predeceased by his wife in December 1978; a daughter in infancy; a granddaughter, Monique McDonald; his parents; three sisters and three brothers.
