BEYER – Father Leroy O., 87, Hollidaysburg, formerly of New Germany, died June 29, 2015, at Garvey Manor. Born Dec. 2, 1927, in Summerhill Township, son of Victor A. and Alberta T. (Smith) Beyer. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Dorothy Trimble-Urick and Ruth Brown; and brother, Russell. Survived by sisters, Helen Brown, Coudersport; Loraine Beyer, Portage; Ida Mae Spaid, Portage; and Alma Rounds, Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law, Jean Beyer, New Germany; and numerous nieces and nephews. Army veteran of the Korean War with 445 Ordnance Ammunition Supply Co. Father Beyer graduated from Wilmore High School in 1945. He worked at Bethlehem Steel Car Shop and Eastern Associated Coal Shaft Department. In 1959, he attended St. Philip Neri Latin School; 1960 to 1961, he attended St. Jerome’s College in Kitchener, Ontario; then from 1962 to 1966, he attended St. Mary’s Seminary and University (Roland Parks), Baltimore, Md. On May 14, 1966, he was ordained at St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling, W.Va., by Bishop Joseph H. Hodges. He served as associate pastor at St. Mary’s, Blacksburg, Va.; St. Paul’s Weirton, W.Va.; St. Francis Xavier, Moundsville, W.Va.; and St. Francis Xavier, Parkersburg, W.Va. He was pastor at Holy Trinity Church, Nitro, W.Va.; Assumption Church, Kaiser, W.Va.; St. Joseph, Fairmont, W.Va.; and St. Jude, Glen Dale, W.Va. In 1995, he began his retirement. During retirement, he served as fill-in priest and celebrated daily Mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Germany and also Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in South Fork. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Germany, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Additional viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Father Leon Hont, OSB, and his cousin, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold Gaus. Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military graveside service by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.
