Allene Park Jones passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, June 23, 2015. Professor Jones was 81 years old. Service: A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Historic Allen Chapel AME Church, 116 Elm St. The Rev. Dr. Sherryl Matlock, pastor of the church, will officiate. Following a committal service, she will be laid to rest in Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: Professor Jones will lie in state to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Born July 23, 1933, in Lexington, Moab community, Allene was the daughter of Allen and Estella Mitchell Parks. She was married to Albert Jones Jr. After graduating from Northwest High School in Giddings, Allene received a bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University before getting her M.S. in nursing-clinical psychology from UCLA. Allene was the first black professor at TCU, where she taught in the Harris School of Nursing. She was a longtime member of Allen Chapel AME Church, where she served as a steward and a member of the Daughters of Allen. Survivors: In addition to her husband, Allene is survived by other family members.
