Mrs. Penrod Is Buried Here Today

Arrangement have been completed for the funeral service for Mrs. Mary France Penrod from the Seydler Funeral Home this afternoon at 5 o'clock, with Dr. Jas. W. Parker, pastor of First Baptist Church and Claude F. O'Neall, pastor assistant officiating.
Mrs. Penrod passed away at her home in Gonzales Monday afternoon at 5:50 o'clock following her 87th birthday July 13 this year. She had been a resident of Gonzales since 1911.
Mrs. Penrod was born in Greenville, Muhlenburg Co. Kentucky on July 13, 1858, being the eldest child of Richard and Harriet Aycock. She was married to William Kennet Penrod on June 5, 1881. To this union five children were born, two sons preceding their parents un death, Claude and Kenneth. Two sons, Dr. L. Penrod of Taft and Boyce Penrod Sr., of Gonzales, and one daughter Mrs. J. M. Thornton of Gonzales survive here, also five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One grandson, Boyce Penrod Jr. was killed in action in Italy Aug. 29, 1944.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Penrod was the surviving widow of the late Dr. W. K. Penrod, who served as pastor of First Baptist Church from 1911 until 1926, and as pastor emeritus from 1926 until his death which took place Dec. 7, 1930.
Active pall bearers were W. B. Reaves, W. O. DuBose. F. D. Kokernot Sr., C. C. Smith Sr., W. O. Thompson and S. M. Lewis.

A large gathering of relatives and friends assembled at Seydler Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon Sep. 25th at five ocl To pay their last tribute of respect to Mrs. Mary Frances Penrod who passed away at her home in Gonzales, Monday afternoon Sep. 24th, at 5:50 o'clock.
Mrs. Penrod had been in failing health for some time, having been confined to her home for the past two years, but only some 3 weeks ago did her condition suddenly grow serious. The end came quietly and peacefully in the presence of her children who had been constantly at her bedside during he last illness. Her pastor Dr. Jas W. Parker and Claude F. O'Neall pastors assistant of First Baptist church of Gonzales officiated at the service. Both paid warm tribute to her life and character. Dr. Parker read for his Scripture lessons the 23rd Psalm, and a portion of the 31st chapter of Proverbs. Mr. O'Neall used as a basis of his talk, some verses from the latter part of the 40th chapter of Isaiah, also the 13th verse of the 14th chapter of Revelation. Miss Lucian Kluge played a number of favorite hymns, and Mr. and Mrs. Claude F. O'Neall sang as a duet, "At Calvary."
Mrs. Penrod as the eldest child of Richard and Harriet Sycock, and was born in Greenville, Muhlenburg Co., Kentucky, July 13, 1858. She came from pioneer stock, her great great grandfather, John Goodall, having fought in the Revolutionary War. She moved o Gonzales in 1911, when her husband the late Dr. W. K. Penrod, whom she married on Jan. 5, 1881, accepted the call of the First Baptist church of Gonzales. She made her home in Gonzales since that date.
Mrs. Penrod is survived by three children, Dr. L. Penrod of Taft, Boyce Penrod Sr., and Mrs.J. M.Thornton of Gonzales, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sons, Claude and Kenneth, preceded their parents in death, and o e grandson Boyce Penrod Jr., was killed in action in Italy August 29, 1944.
Mrs. Penrod was a loyal and devoted wife and mother, a kind and sympathetic friend, and a faithful and consecrated church worker. In these three realms she exerted a strong influence for good that will be felt as long as those who knew her live. While she has been called to be with her Saviour whom she loved to serve during her life, her memory will be benediction to her family and host of friends who mourn her passing.
