Walter E. Leedy, 88, Gray, passed away, Friday, June 26, 2015 at Life Care Center in Gray.

A native of Sullivan County, he was a son of the late Edwin and Maggie Bond Leedy. He was a member of Hales Chapel Christian Church in Gray. Walter served his country proudly in the United States Navy for 21 years during WWII and the Vietnam Conflict. He retired on July 14, 1969, and began teaching Naval Science at the High School level. He started up NJROTC units at West High School in Knoxville, TN and David Crockett High School in Jonesborough, TN. He retired from teaching in 1978 and used the skills learned in the Navy to pursue a career as an Authorized Nuclear Inspector for TVA, Jeffersonville Indiana Light and Power and PG&E retiring for good in 1985. Walter adored and loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and three sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Reba Buckingham Leedy of the home; a son, Guy Leedy of Gray; a granddaughter Austin McConnell and her husband Alexander of Auburn, AL; two special nieces; one sister-in-law Opal Leedy; and many more nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Caris Healthcare and Life Care Center of Gray for the loving care given to Walter.

For those who prefer, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in memory of Walter to Hales Chapel Christian Church 280 Hales Chapel Road, Gray, Tennessee 37615.

The family will receive friends and family to share memories from 2:00PM until 4:00PM on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Hales Chapel Christian Church, Gray. The family requests your presence for a Celebration of Life Service immediately following at 4:00PM with Mr. Lamar Garrison, Minister and Mr. Randle Johnson, Minister officiating. A Graveside Service will immediately follow at Hales Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Gresham, Jim Slagle, Larry Buckingham, Bruce Wine, David Graves and David Gresham.
