Samuel L. Cook, who fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He enlisted in Manchester, Tennessee in November 1861. It was an independent company and was disbanded. He then served in Reg 39th Georgia Company E Infantry. He served till end of war. Mr. Cook was later conductor on one of the first electric street cars in what was then known as New Decatur. Before his death December 10, 1924, he served as alderman and president of the council of Albany.

He was a retired merchant. He was the son of Alfred Berris Cook, born in England and Nancy Williams, born in Maryland.
