Delmer Carl Rathje, 76, of Shelby, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in Stromsburg. Delmer was born May 28, 1939, in Ulysses, the son of Ingward Martin and Anna Fredarika (Nuttlemen) Rathje. He grew up in the Rising City area and graduated from Rising City High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and enjoyed being stationed in Alaska. After serving in the reserves he was honorably discharged in 1963. Delmer married Sharon Bemis in 1962 and they had two sons.

Delmer lived and farmed south of Shelby and was the former owner/operator of Little Red Sled Company. He was a very dedicated man when it came to antique tractors and tractor pulling. He loved spending time with his grandkids even more. Delmer had served on the Shelby School Board, was a member and past commander of the Shelby Legion, member of Faith Lutheran Church and the NATPA.

He is survived by two sons, Rory (Amy) Rathje of Madison, Ind., Shane (Teresa) Rathje of Lincoln; grandchildren, Michael, Mandy, Alec and Rily; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law Martin and Zelina Rathje and infant brother. Ivan.

Funeral on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Church, Rising City. Committal with military honors, Faith West Cemetery.
