(USS Lexington)

Pilot: Lt(jg). Donald Dillard Jones Spanagel

On 17 January 1945, the plane took off with a long-distance search mission in South China Sea. Due to the deteriorating weather conditions, radio contact with the crew became impossible. They were supposed to land in Lingayen, The Philippines, however, the bomber never reached the place. Presumably, they ran out of fuel and attempted to land on water in the Lingayen Gulf Area.
