The Fever at Barry's Landing.
OPELOUSAS, October 3, 1870.
To the President of the Opelousas Howard Association:
Dear Sir--You have had published under my signature in the "Journal" of last Saturday, a report on the sanitary condition at BARRÉ's Landing. To the few lines I had briefly sketched at your office, an erroneous addition has been made from which it appears that nineteen deaths have occurred at that place, including the whole number of colored persons who had the Yellow Fever, -- whilst really only ten persons died, all white. The disease has proved as usual very mild on the colored persons, and not one of them has died.

I would therefore respectfully ask of you to have this error corrected, by publishing the report that I gave you exactly as I wrote it down at your office, that is the following terms:

"There have been 48 cases of Yellow Fever at BARRÉ's Landing up to this day, 29th of September, Out of that number, ten have died, four of which recieved medical attention too late, that is during the 24 hours preceeding death; and one (at CLOSE's mill) never saw a physician. The two last cases under treatments are now out of danger. Out of the 48 cases, nine were colored (two mulatoes and seven negroes.) Black vomit has been noted in eleven cases, ten of which died, and one is now perfectly well.

Dead: Alexis LAGÜE, his two eldest sons [Joseph Celidor LAGÜE and Louis Adolphe LAGÜE], and two daughters; Mrs. Joseph DUBOURDIUE [Marie Flavie (DéJEAN) DUBOURDIEU], Miss Lucille DeJEAN (at Deshotel's), Giles DeJEAN (at Deshotel's), Napoleon LÉGER, Felix YOUNG, a nephew of Franç. Louis Coulon [DeVILLIER] at CLOSE's mill).
