Obituary for Vera Lucille Selland

Vera L. Selland died Monday, June 22, 2015 from complications following a stroke at McKee Medical Center.

She was born November 13, 1932 in Fort Collins Colorado and lived in the Fort Collins/Loveland area most of her life. She attended Loveland High School and received her GED at 40 years old. Vera was a homemaker and artist. She enjoyed oil painting, watercolor, sculpting, ceramics, and pottery. She also wrote poetry, read mysteries (sometimes a book a day), and loved to listen to her husband Terry play the piano. She also loved to volunteer, working with the Salvation Army in Fort Collins, and teaching ceramics at the Senior Center in Fort Collins and church children in Fountain.

Vera married Robert Lee Sharp in Fort Collins on November 17, 1950. He passed away in 1977. They had 4 children, Diana Eliason of Firestone, Michael Sharp of Fort Collins (and wife Mary), James Sharp, deceased in 2009, and Gayle Sharp of Loveland. She also was the proud grandmother of 12, great grandmother of 14, and great-great grandmother of 2.

She is also survived by 3 sisters (Becky Markle (Argus), Mary Akers (Bill), both in Arkansas, Lynn McCollister (Jim) in California, and a brother Gregg Alvarez (Mary) in California). Vera touched so many lives. Her hugs were warm and loving. She will be missed by all her knew her.

A Celebration of Vera's life will be held Tue., June 30 at 10:00 A.M. at North Shore Park (near the duck pond) in Loveland. A potluck lunch will follow.
-------------------------------------------------
Vera was born the eldest daughter of Charles and Lois Elizabeth (Betty Kern) Watson. She and her parents lived next door to her maternal grandparents when she was little and was very close to her uncle, Lawrence Kern, and her aunt, Barbara Kern Tuttle.

Vera's parents moved to and from California during her younger years. Most of her school age years were spent in the Masonville/Bellvue area. She attended Loveland High School, but married before graduation.

Bob was in the military which took them to Washington State where they had their first child. Later, they returned to the Fort Collins area, where Bob was an electrician. There, had three more children; Michael, James and Gayle.

Vera's early works were jewelry made of shells. In her later years, she still created little clay dolls, creche sets or animals for all her family and friends.

After Bob's death, Vera married Terry Selland with whom she spent many happy years near her family, garden and pets. (Vera loved trips they made to Blackhawk for entertainment.)

"We will miss her childlike giggle, her enthusiasm for the small things in life, and her positive joyful attitude towards everyone. If you knew My Aunt, you loved her." TA
