Schug, 85 of Pendleton, passed into the Lord's presence Sunday, June 21, 2015 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease and a brief illness.

He was born December 12, 1929 in Berne, Indiana to the late Luster and Magdalena (Burke) Schug. They moved to Pendleton in 1930. Jim was a 1947 graduate of Pendleton High School and a member of the Fighting Irish basketball team that advanced to the semi-state tournament in the days of single class basketball.

After one year at Butler University, Jim spent four years as a machinist mate aboard the destroyer USS Bordelon. His Navy experience was a most cherished time of his life, about which he spoke quite often at the slightest provocation.

After the Navy, Jim spent time with Best Ever Dairy and Pendleton Banking Company before a 26 year career as an industrial engineer with Delco Remy Division of General Motors, from which he retired in 1993. Jim greatly enjoyed sports, Big Band music, gardening, and spending time with his family. Jim and Marj loved traveling and eventually made it to all 50 states. Hosting family dinners and cookouts was a favorite of Jim's and he was famous for his barbequed chicken, homemade vegetable soup, and roasting his own peanuts.

He was a lifelong and active member of Pendleton First United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee, usher chairperson, and building fund chair.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marjorie (Waymire) Schug. Dad and Mom set a wonderful example of faith, love, and the importance of family to son, Stephen (Pamela) Schug of Pendleton, daughter, Kathryn (John) Yocum of Indianapolis, and daughter, Patricia (Larry Lehnerz) Schug of Indianapolis. He was most affectionately known as "Pappy" to all his grandchildren: Ryan (Courtney) Barkdull of Pendleton, Ben (Jessica) Schug of McCordsville, Jennifer (Aaron) Black of Pendleton, Scot (Sarah Balbach) Young of Orlando, FL, Synthia (Aaron Edelstein) Schug of San Diego, CA, Natalie (Lucas) DeShong of Pendleton, Karina (Joe) Wellman of Greenfield and Rebecca Cox of Greenfield. Jim was also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, brother, Richard (Janet) Schug of Anderson, Alice Parker of Bradenton, FL, and Carolyn Horner of Mableton, GA, and special nephew, Kurt (Beckie) Kahl of Pendleton and special niece, Karen (Darrel) Noland of Plainfield as well as several other nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 3 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E.
