Dorman F Avery of Loudonville, New York, died on Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, VA. he was 81. He died peacefully with his son Kevin, his daughter Karen, and his future daughter-in-law by his side. He had been in Virginia since April. He shared more than 50 years of his life with his beloved wife Estelle who died last year. Dorman was a warm and wonderful person. He was a great cook, a hilarious story teller, and an even better father.
Dorman spent his professional life working for the New York State Division of Human Rights. He was also an ordained Baptist minister who first came to Albany to be the associate pastor of Temple Baptist Church. He later became pastor at Millis Memorial Baptist Church in Lansingburgh. He was an active member of Albany's Emmanuel Baptist Church, and throughout his life was involved with several community organizatuons including the NAACP, the YMCA, and the Albany Ministers Association.
Dorman is the loving father of Keith, Kevin, and Karen Avery; grandfather to Kyle and Kayla Avery, who called him Pops, and Angela and Avery Chapman who called him Grand Duddy. He is the father-in-law to Kim D. Avery and Dr. Richard Chapman, and was to become father-in-law to Bryonie Byers this fall. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity in his name.
