Robert Lee Akin, 90 died Friday May 13, 2005 at his home in Mustang. He was born September 25, 1914 in Ashland, Oklahoma to Robert Lee & Emma (Robinson) Akin. Robert worked at Tinker AFB for thirty years, retiring in 1979. Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marcella (McDowell) Akin, three daughters Jeanette Carter and husband Jerry of Oklahoma City, Marion Addington and husband Dwain of Joplin, MO. and Alice Rutledge and husband Mike of Mustang, one son Alan Akin of Boley, OK. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one brother Lloyd Akin of Oklahoma City, one sister Virginia Gleason of Las Vegas, NV, plus many nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jim and one sister Lee. Robert served proudly in the United States Army during WW II earning a Purple Heart and other metals and ribbons while overseas. Robert attended the Ranchwood Church of Christ in Mustang, was a member of the Mustang Masonic Lodge, the Lion's Club and the VFW. Robert loved fishing, camping, gardening and most of all his family and friends. The family wishes to thank the Odyssey Hospice Services for all they did. Services will be held 2:00PM Monday May 16, 2005 at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service with interment with military honors to follow at the Mustang Cemetery.
