Oscar Sr. AHLSTRAND came to the USA from Sweden in the 1890's to help build a railroad from Kansas City, Missouri to Port Arthur, Texas, to provide rail access to the Gulf of Mexico. The railroad constuction was financed mainly by Dutch and Swedish investors. The chosen route brought the railroad through Arkansas where Oscar Sr. settled after the railroad was constructed to help manage the operations.
