Michael came to America with his parents, brother August, sister Mary and four additional Ciske / Ciskeys, one male and three females. The Ciske / Ciskey family lived in Ohio, Indiana and Coal Valley Township, IL before permanently settling in Wayne Township, Monroe County, IA.

Michael married Catherine "Kate" Cullinane* (1860 - 1941), daughter of Pierce W. Cullinane* (1813 - 1908) and Martha Donelly (1830 - 1910), on December 22, 1875 at Monroe County, IA.

Michael and Kate were the parents of four children: Mary H. (Ciska**) Shehan (1879 - 1962), Martin Francis Ciska** (1881 - 1956), Ellen Lovina "Ella" (Ciska**) Donahue (1883 - 1962) and Anna Catherine (Ciska**) Wolf (1885 - 1964).

NOTE: *The family name appears Cullen, Cullinan and Cullinane in various sources. Kate's obituary references Cullen and her tombstone reflects Cullinane.

Michael Ciskey, three miles north of Melrose, was overcome by the heat while in the hayfield last week, from the effects of which he died Saturday and was buried in the cemetery at Stacyville on Sabbath. Father Caddon was with him during his last hours. The deceased left a wife and four children.
