Melvin Lee Baber, 84 of Lyndhurst passed away Thursday, June 18,2015 at Avante at Waynesboro Nursing Home. Born in Albemarle County on April 16, 1931, a son of the late John William Baber, Sr. and Lillian Robertson Baber.

Melvin was an Army Veteran. He was a member of Sherando United Methodist Church. Melvin also was a Honorary member of the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department and Waynesboro Moose Lodge. Melvin worked for many years as a Technician for Baber's Heating and Air Conditioning. He also greatly enjoyed NASCAR and watching his favorite drivers, the late Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Floyd Baber; a son, Jerry Wayne Baber; two brothers, John W. Baber, Jr. and Dennis Baber; a sister, Barbara Baber Collins.

Survivors include his two sons, Andrew Lee Baber of Lyndhurst and Steven Allen Baber and his wife, Dorothy; granddaughter, Rhonda Ellington; two great grandchildren, Danielle and Paul Ellington; brother, Kenneth W. Baber and his wife, Phyllis of Marlinton, West Virginia; a sister, Margaret Crouch of West Memphis, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Betty Baber of Lyndhurst; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish his memory is his special friends, Margie Terrell and family.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Rev. Clayton Payne officiating. Burial to follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Monday, June 22, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Avante at Waynesboro for their care of Melvin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made in Melvin's memory to the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department, 892 Mt Torrey Rd, Lyndhurst, VA 22952.
