Jonathan Gardner,1667-Deceased∼Born about 1617 (aged 18 on 17 April 1635).
Died in Roxbury 5 November 1698.
Married in Roxbury 9 May 1646 Rebecca Crooke, daughter of Roger Crooke (in his will, dated 2 March 1638/9, "Roger Crooke in the town of Hammersmith of the parish of Fulham in the county of Middlesex" in England included a bequest to "three daughters, Mary, Rebecca, and Ruth Crooke;" on 12 December 1646, "Peter Gardiner of Roxbury, carpenter, & Rebecca his wife constituted Michaell Powell of Dedham in New England their lawful attorney to ask & receive &c. a certain legacy ... given unto the said Rebecca by the last will & testament of Roger Crooke of Hammersmith near London, tailor, deceased"). She died at Roxbury on 10 June 1675 "in her 45th year," and was buried there on 11 June 1675.
"Thomas Gardner, householder," was buried at Roxbury on [blank] November 1638. On 7 October 1658, "our aged sister Gardiner was buried." As noted above, a parcel of land held in the early 1650s by "widow Gardner" was indexed as belonging to Peter Gardner. The reasonable assumption has been made that this couple were the parents of Peter Gardner, and that a second Thomas Gardner who appeared early in Roxbury was Peter's brother.
