Dr. Domann was scheduled to testify in a drug related case to be tried in California, Moniteau County, in a change of venue. The doctor's office had been broken into and prescription pads had been stolen. A forged prescription had been passed in a Columbia drugstore.
The perpetrator, D.J.W., was arrested but was soon out on bail and waiting for the trial. A conviction from the drug charge would have violated his parole and put him back in prison. He was determined to keep Dr. Domann from testifying.
The death of Dr. "Doc" Domann changed the community in many ways. Dr. A.H. Domann had moved to Auxvasse in 1938 and was a doctor who practiced his profession in a way long forgotten by many but so appreciated by those who called upon him when needed. Mildred, Doc's wife and office secretary didn't make any appointments, patients were seen when it came their turn no matter how long the day lasted. He was even making house calls when necessary and sometimes didn't charge those unable to pay. He handed out nichols to the small children who visited his office and gave free sports physicals. But this was all to stop after forty-two years.
Dr. Domann was a 30-year charter member of the Auxvasse Lion's Club, had served on the school board, the city council and an active member of the Auxvasse Methodist Church.
Dr. Domann is survived by his wife, Mildred Crawford Domann, and two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Kay Davis of Mexico and Phyllis Sue Domann of Warrensburg.
