Dorthy Elaine (Blackwood) Davenport, 94, formerly of Muskogee, died Thursday, June 18, 2015 in Oklahoma City. She was born November 18, 1920 in Boynton, Oklahoma to James Albert Blackwood and Lillian Adair (Woodson) Blackwood.

At a young age, Dorthy moved with her family to Tulsa where she grew up and attended Tulsa University.

On December 3, 1942, Dorthy married James Morgan Davenport, Jr. in Tulsa at Boston Avenue Methodist Church. Her career spanned work for major oil and gas companies to legal secretarial positions with the U.S. Government.

In 1958, she moved with her family to Muskogee and was a founding member of Wesley United Methodist Church playing the piano and organ in worship for over 40 years.

A talented artist, Dorthy leaves behind numerous works in oil and water color for others to enjoy. In later years she was involved with coaching reading at the Boulevard Christian Church day school.

Dorthy was preceded in death by her husband, James Davenport; two brothers, Roger Blackwood and Marshall Blackwood; and one grandchild, Bradley Steven Dorough.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elaine Dorough of Starkville, MS; son, James Patrick Davenport, of Guthrie, OK and grandchildren, Faith Elizabeth Alliss (Rick), Hope Suzanne Riggs (Leon), Charity Joanne Mauch (Zach), Isaac Andrew Davenport (Andrea) Seth Samuel Davenport, Gary Dorough (Rebecca), one great granddaughter Jasmine Elaine Riggs and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Eric Fletcher at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in the Foster-Petering Funeral Home’s Ivory Chapel. Interment will follow in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
