OFFERMAN -- Rex Lawton Cason, 17, died Feb. 18 at Baptist Medical Center's Wolfson Children's Hospital after a long bout with leukemia. He had undergone an unsuccessful bone-marrow transplant.
He was born in Pierce County and attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a ninth-grade student at Pierce County High School until dropping out due to his health.
SURVIVORS: his father and stepmother, Jerry and Vanessa Cason of Offerman; his mother, Regina F. Thomas of Mount Airy; three sisters, Goldie M. Cason and Adrian R. Lyons, both of Offerman, and Chelsea J. Thomas of Mount Airy; a brother, Jonathan L. Cason of Offerman; his paternal grandmother, Lilyphine B. Cason of Patterson; his paternal grandfather, Lewis M. Lyons of Offerman; his maternal grandmother, Wilma L. Thornton of Blackshear; several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
FUNERAL: noon today at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, burial in Millcreek Cemetery.
