Mr. Despaux was born in Barataria and lived in Lafitte for many years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3750, the Msgr. Paul Richard Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the Order of Alhambra Telaye Caravan No. 178 and the Loyal Order of Moose Harvey Lodge No. 2105. He was a member of the Lafitte/Barataria/Crown Point Fire Co. and Retirees of Chevron U.S.A.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Belle Cantrell Despaux; a son, Alvro Despaux Jr.; a brother, Carroll Despaux; and three grandchildren.
A Mass will be said today at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lafitte. Visitation will be today from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Burial will be in St. Pius X Cemetery in Crown Point.
