She was 70 years young. She grew up in Charleston and raised five children in West Ashley. She was a strong woman who just tried to keep her family together. She was always happy and full of joy. She worked at the historical Mother Emanuel AME Church of Charleston, SC for more than three decades. As its custodian, she took pride in looking after the historic church. She was a faithful member of the congregation as well.

The family received friends at 109 Peppertree Lane in North Charleston.

A viewing and visitation was held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at The Palmetto Mortuary, 1122 Morrison Drive, Charleston, SC from 12 to 4 PM. A viewing and visitation was also held at Royal Missionary Baptist Church, 4761 Luella Avenue, Charleston, SC from 5 to 8 PM. The funeral was held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 11 AM at Royal Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Charleston, SC.

NOTE: She was killed during the mass shooting at Bible Study session at Mother Emanuel AME Church, 110 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC. It happened during a prayer meeting being held at the church on Wednesday night, June 17, 2015 approximately 9 PM.
