Surviving are his wife; four sons, Ivan, Lester, Mervin, Clayton; three sisters [daughters], Viola Martin, Berneice Naffziger and Janice Martin; two sisters, LaVerne Roth and Barbara Reeb; one brother, Fred Detweiler; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
One son, three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Birky was a World War I veteran. He had retired after farming in the Delavan area most of his life.
He was member of Hopedale Mennonite Church, to which memorials may be made.
