Ora Dunlap passed away peacefully on the morning of June 12th at the age of 96. As she entered heaven we know she joined her loving husband of nearly 75 years, Garl Dunlap, as well as her parents, sisters and loved ones.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 14th, at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home from 4-6pm. A funeral service of celebration will be held on Monday, June 15th, at 3pm at Mayfield Kiser followed by a graveside service at the Everman Cemetery.
Ora Ozella Dunlap was born to John and Lillie Morgan in Fort Worth, Texas on April 19, 1919. She met and married the love of her life, Garl, in May, 1937 and they raised two children. While working their own dairy farm, Ora attended classes and received her B.A. in Education and later an M.E. at TCU. Throughout her career, Ora served as a teacher and principal for the Fort Worth ISD. Teaching positions at W.J. Turner and Carter Park were followed by positions as principal at Stephen F. Austin, East Handley and Daggett Elementary Schools. She also served on the Board of Directors at EECU for over 40 years.
Nanny loved anything coconut and a good cup of coffee. She also loved education and made sure her children and grandchildren knew how to write and spell well. Because of Nanny we were champion readers and we knew to never ask a question ending in the word ‘at’ or her answer would always be ‘between the ‘a’ and the ‘t’.
Nanny was always active in church and loved her Lord and Savior more than life. She made sure to always share her faith in Jesus Christ to everyone. During the years before PawPaw’s death you could find her every morning in her favorite chair reading the Bible and praying with a cup of coffee by her side.
Nanny was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and her husband, Garl. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Shelton, her son, Bob Dunlap and wife Martha; grandchildren, David, Jennifer, Judy, Doug, Robert, Houston and Laramie; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Gentiva hospice and special caregivers Heather, Katrina, Virginia, Dena, and Savannah.
Nanny will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
