She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. B F Cooper, of Oldtown, where she was born. Mrs. Hoss made her home with her sister, the late Mrs. J W Dobyns, who passed away only a few weeks ago, after the death of her husband, A F Hoss, who was Clerk and Master of the Chancery Court in Kingsport.
Mrs. Hoss was a member of the Broad Street Methodist Church, The Women’s Society of Christian Service, and also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
A short service was held at the Broad Street Methodist Church, Kingsport, where the body laid in state from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Saturday. The body was then brought by ambulance to Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home and then moved to the home of Mr and Mrs McCamant Higgins, West Washington Street, about 5:30 Saturday afternoon, where her body remained until 1:30 pm Sunday.
Funeral services were conducted at Oldtown Methodist Church, in charge of Dr M A Stevenson, pastor of First Methdist Church, Galax, a long-time friend of the family. A quartette composed of Mrs. Bill Berry, Mr. and Mrs. James Carico and Sam Hampton sang “When They Ring the Golden Bells for You and Me.” Mrs. Paul Kapp sang “Going Home,” with Mrs. N G Dixon accompanist at the piano. Burial under Vaughan-Guynn direction, was in the Nuckolls Cemetery.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. C E Anderson and Mrs. A C Anderson, both of Galax.
Pallbearers were Glenn Pless, Hale Nuckolls, Ben Witherow, Lance M Todd, Earl Nuckolls, and Garland Anderson.
Although a very large floral tribute was sent, a request had been made by the deceased that there be no flowers, but donations to the cancer fund in her memory would be appreciated.
