Long Active in Democratic Party politics, Mother of Martinsburg's mayor


Martinsburg, W Va— Onita J. Hutzler, 65, 614 West Virginia Ave, Martinsburg, wife of John S. Hutzler and molher. of James B. Hutzler, Martinsburg's mayor, died early Wednesday morning at Orlando, Florida.

Mrs. Hutzler died several hours after she was striken. She had been visiting with her brother, C. Tull Whittaker, Sanford, Fla.

Born August 7, 1899 in Frederick County. Va., she was daughter of C. J. and Sara (DeHaven) Whittaker [sic. Note correct spelling on parents' memorials ].

She had resided here for more than 40 years and was an active member of St. Luke's Church here, the Women's Democratic Club and has served in both Martinsburg and Berkeley County Democratic executive committees.

Survivors, in addition to her husband and son, James, include son, John M., Martinsburg; one daughter, Mrs W. Harley Miller, Martinsburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, C. Tull Whittaker, Sanford; Harry Whittaker, Winter Haven, Fla., and Lee Whittaker, Siler, Va. and two sisters, Mrs. A. T. Holiday, Martinsburg, and Mrs. Clarence DeHaven, Glengary. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m, Saturday at Brown Funeral Home here, the Rev. Howard L. Fulk officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
