Leona Rose Kohl, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Slemer Arkfeld was born
Oct. 21, 1924 on a farm south of Defiance. She was baptized, received her First Communion and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic church in Defiance. Leona attended St. Paul's Catholic school in Defiance and graduated in 1941. She then attended Boyles Business College in Co. Bluffs, for a short time.
On June 9, 1943, she married Warren Kohl at St. Peter's Catholic church in Defiance. Two children were born to this union. After their marriage, they farmed near Portsmouth until 1983 when they moved to a farm near Defiance. This is where they have lived and farmed since that thne.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic church in Defiance. She died at Bishop Clarkson hospital in Omaha on Saturday, Nov. 10, 1964 at the age of 60 years and 14 days.
