Jessie Rae Whitehurst, of Virginia Beach, entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the age of 75 years. Jessie was born on January 4, 1940 in North Carolina to Paul and Julia (formerly Nelson) Britt. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Marvin D. Whitehurst, Jr, daughter Deborah Saunders, and sister Pauline Cherry. She is survived by her son Alton D. and daughter-in-law Melanie. Further survived by her siblings Ethel Cale of Colerain, NC; Shirley Dunning of Washington, NC; Ann Holloman of Hampton, VA; Sarah Diaz of Chesapeake, VA; and Raymond Britt of Michigan. Jessie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jessie was a member of Creeds Church of Christ and a member of the Auxiliary Creeds Volunteer Fire Department. She also enjoyed her work as a bus driver and her interactions with the children. In her freetime, she enjoyed baking, sewing, and cooking.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Chesapeake Chapel (929 Battlefield Blvd. S) from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 17 at Creeds Church of Christ (5189 Morris Neck Rd. Virginia Beach) at 11 AM. Procession to the family cemetery for burial to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the American Cancer Society or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
