Daughter of Robert and Ann McCall Black. Married Aaron Devinney.∼Sarah Black was born in Mount Joy Township, York County, PA. She was the daughter of Robert Black and Ann McCall Black. She was the wife of Aaron Deveny and settled with her husband in Rutherford County, NC in 1775. She lived in the Duncan's Creek community along Briar Creek until her death in 1734. She was the mother of nine children. When her husband, Captain Aaron Deveny, was captured by Tories during the Revolutionary War, she pled with British Major Patrick Ferguson for for his release. After two weeks of pleading and tears, Major Patrick Ferguson released her husband Aaron. He said he would rather see the death of twenty men than the tears of one woman.
