KINGSPORT — Ernie Bright, 61, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday (March 14, 2012).
Born on Aug. 7, 1950, in Kingsport, Mr. Bright was retired from Don Billings Kingsport Motors. He enjoyed trading and tinkering with watches and clocks and will be fondly remembered by many as a wonderful, helpful neighbor and friend. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed singing quartet style music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Bright Jr. and Irene Taylor Bright; brother, Roger Bright; and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his companion and caregiver, Linda Cavin, Kingsport; daughter, Melissa Collins, Kingsport; son, Travis Bright, Kingsport ; one grandson and one granddaughter; mother of his children, Julia Bright, Kingsport; brother, Bobby Bright and wife, Judy, Gate City, Va.; several nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins; special friend, Kathy Flanary; and loving feline friend, Angel.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. J.W. Depew officiating.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City. Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Light, and “Rookie” and Danny, friends from Maple Oak Apartments.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 200 Professional Park Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37663.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the 4th floor staff of Indian Path Medical Center, staff of Brookhaven Manor and staff of Amedisys Hospice for the care and concern shown to Ernie during his illness.
Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
