Capt. W. H. McAfee, 12-3-1915, Capt. William Hamilton McAfee, a former citizen of Dahlonega, died in Atlanta on Friday night at the age of eighty-two, and was brought back and buried here on Sunday afternoon, at the place he staked off while back on a visit to his old home town some months ago. The deceased was a Mason and a member of the Methodist church. The funeral services were conducted by Revs. Barnett, Blalock, and Ferguson, pastors of the Methodist, Baptist, and Presbyterian churches at this place, occurring in the building where the departed one had stood in the pulpit and preached many times. Capt. McAfee was a very prominent public man, quite active in politics during his younger days, never failing to get a single office he asked for within the gift of the people. Served as a member of the city council here one term, was tax collector of Lumpkin county two years, and represented White, Dawson, and Lumpkin in the senate two terms. His body was lowered in its last resting place by his brother Masons, when a company of cadets fired the usual salute in his honor.
Buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Lumpkin County, Georgia, no dates on marker.
