Mr. Clifford Owen "Bucket" Alford, Jr., 88, of LaGrange, GA passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Alford was born January 28, 1927 in LaGrange, GA, son of the late Clifford Owen Alford, Sr. and Clara Elizabeth Gibson Alford. He joined the Navy at the age of 16, served in WWII, and was honorable discharged on May 31, 1946. After service he returned to LaGrange to help open and operate the family owned business, Alford Groceries. He went on to become a bread salesman with Merita Bread Company and later Flowers Baking Company, retiring in 1996. Mr. Alford loved his family, people, working, gardening, fishing, and hunting.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Alford was preceded in death by brothers, Frank (Lucille) Alford, Clarence (Ruby) Alford, Ted (Hazel) Alford, and Paige Alford.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Duane Alford; children, Sandra Wells of Smyrna, Donna (Jackie) Robinson of LaGrange, and Doris (David) Kennon of LaGrange; grandchildren, Renee (Kerry) White, Lisa (Chris) Crowell, Shane Kennon, Katharine Wells, Joshua (Beth) Kennon, Joseph (Gina) Wells, Elizabeth (Sammy) Dewald; great grandchildren, Jay, Spencer (Emily), Hunter, Callie, Chasidy, Madison, Heaven, Harley, Kaleb, Hunter, Bella, Owen, Montie, Harrison, William; great-great grandchild, Ensley; brother, Ted (Sharon) Alford of LaGrange; special nephews, Sanford, Jerry, Carl, David and family; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Reverend Wayne Hester and Reverend Jimmy McMillian officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery. The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Clifford O. "Bucket" Alford, Jr.
