ELMWOOD — Andrew J. Fensenmaier, 89, of Elmwood, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006, at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home.

Andrew was born May 15, 1917, in the township of Eau Galle, rural Elmwood. He was the son of William and Emma (Sperger) Fensenmaier, and grew up in the Elmwood area. Andrew married Elaine Webb on January 7, 1943; and they resided in the Elmwood area for their 63 years of marriage. Andrew operated a dairy farm in the Morton Hill area southeast of Elmwood for many years before working construction for Sweeney Bros. until his retirement. He prided himself on being a hard-working man, and was continually busy throughout his retirement with woodworking, gardening and helping others.

Andrew had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, especially fox hunting, deer hunting with his sons, and fishing with his wife and family at their lake home in Chetek, Wis. Andrew was a faithful man and a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and will be missed by many people.

Andrew is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; three daughters, Rosemary (Joe) Bates of Chetek, Judy (Barry) Smith of Boyceville and Susan (Lloyd) Bennett of Weld, Maine; two sons, Greg of Elmwood and Joe (Jenny) of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marion Linden of De Forest, Theresa Wilson of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Bernadine Murray of Fairfield, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Fesenmaier of Elmwood.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Everett and Raymond; and two grandsons, Christopher Rongholt and John Matthew Fesenmaier.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Elmwood, with the Rev. Varkey V. Joseph officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rhiel's Funeral Home in Elmwood, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
