The eldest of 4 children of John M. Jordan (1834-1917) and Mary Elizabeth Barnett (or Barnet) Jordan (1842-1881), Frank led an adventuresome life. He grew up on a farm in Red Wing MN, had an early short career as a "hypnotist" in MN, and worked as a plumber during his first marriage to Eloise (Elsie) Fleming. During the first World War, he worked as a photographer for the U. S. War College in Washington, DC.and traveled abroad, where he met his second wife, Englishwoman Helen Baker Oakes, 23 years his junior. He had two sons from his first marriage (Jesse Earl, 1896-1947, and John Franklin, 1899-1982) and one from his second (Ronald Franklin, called Billie, 1922-2004).
