Zenas Bump was born in 1788 in Middleboro, Plymouth County, Mass. One of eight children born to Isaac Bump and Molly (Polly) Bisbee Bump. This Zenas Bump is not to be confused with the Zenus Bumpus of Wareham, Plymouth Co., Mass.

In 1806 Zenas married Sally Sherwood and thereafter the couple moved to Chittenden, Rutland Co. Vermont.

Aug, 8, 1812 Zenas entered the service of the 1st Regment of the Vermont Militia serving in Capt. Needham's Company of Major Charles William's Regiment, during the War of 1812. Zenas was discharged Dec. 26, 1812.

Zenas and Sally had four children: Maria S. Bump Robinson, John Orville Bump, Delight E Bump Haskins and Milton E. Bump. Wife Sally died 21 March 1826 and is buried alone in West Cemetery, West Cornwall, Addison Co. Vermont.

After Sally's death, Zenas and family moved to Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co. New York. Zenas was a tailor by trade.

Between 1844 and 1845, Zenas joined his sons Milton Edward Bump and John Orville Bump and their families and brothers Henry Cyrus Bump and Walter Bump in the great western migration to Wisconsin, settling in Decatur, Green County, where Zenas continued in the tailor trade.

Zenas Bump is believed to be last found in the 1860 US Census for Decatur, Green Co. Wisc. mistakenly indexed as Bing Borup.

It is believed that Zenas Bump died in Wisconsin between 1860 and the spring of 1864 when his son John Orville Bump and family moved to Ellis Twp., Hardin County, Iowa.

It is believed that Zenas Bump is buried in an unmarked grave next to the grave of his grandson Alba R. Bump who died of injuries suffered during his service in 2nd Wisc. Calvary during the Civil War.

Through his mother Molly Bisbee Bump, Zenas Bump was a direct descendant of several passengers who arrived in New England aboard the Mayflower in 1620.
