Melvin L. Ditzler, of Biglerville, departed this life June 25.

He was the son of the late Orville J. and Cora Fidler Ditzler.

Mr. Ditzler was a member of Bender's Lutheran Church in Biglerville. He and his late wife owned and operated Ditzler's Restaurant in Hanover from 1928 to 1930, Ditzler's Appliance Store in Gettysburg from 1940 to 1943, Ditzler's Restaurant in Biglerville from 1943 to 1970, and Ditzler's Auction and Furniture Store in Biglerville from 1943 to 1983. Mr. Ditzler managed Mitchell's Restaurant in Gettysburg from 1930 to 1940.

He was a member of Biglerville Historical Society, Gettysburg Elks Lodge #1045 and Biglerville Business Club. He was also a former member of the Biglerville Borough Council and a former director of the Biglerville National Bank and late the Gettysburg National Bank.

His wife of 70 years, the late Barbara Rosella (Miller) Ditzler, entered into eternal rest in 1999, and he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harold L. and Joan Sanders Ditzler of Biglerville; six granddaughters; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two grandsons; four brothers, Paul, Clair, Russell and Richard Ditzler; and one sister, Isabell Bosserman.
