Unto them were born two boys and three girls. Three have crossed the silent river leaving Charles and Mrs. Ellen Sims, both well known in this community. Grandpa and grandma Drake had gone with others back to Maine to visit scenes of early days, once more. Going through Illinois she had a slight sick spell; then again at Toronto, Can., she was quite sick but after that seemed to feel real well. Leaving Boston for Newport, Me., Saturday, she was taken sick again on the train and passed a very bad night. Arriving at Newport about 3 o'clock a.m. Sunday, a physician was summoned. At intervals she would seem to feel better continuing thus till she passed away at 6 o'clock Tuesday morning, July 7. A few minutes before death she told her husband "I am going to die." He tried to encourage her and hurriedly sent for the doctor but it was of no avail. The spirit took its flight about this time and she was past earthly aid. Her sister arrived a few hours later but too late to see her in this life.
Not long after she was married she mad a profession of religion. Soon after the Church of Christ was organized at Roselma she took membership therein and on coming to town became one of the charter members of the church and has been a faithful attendant at the worship ever since. She died in the faith, Rejoicing in the glorious hope of immortality.
C. E. Drake went to Omaha Thursday of last week to meet his father. They returned with the body Saturday p.m. and on examination found it in excellent condition.
The funeral was from the Congregational church Sunday, 3 o'clock, where a large concourse of friends and neighbors assembled to show respect and sympathy. Services were conducted by D. J. Poynter, J. L. Lemmon and Rev. Arthur Townsend assisting. The pall bearers were Wm. Weitzel, T. F. Martin, M. G. Needham, W. W. Ladd, Wm. McLean and A. W. Ladd. The body was laid away in Rose Hill there to await the call of the Master on the resurrection morn.
