WOLBACH, Josephine Harmar Age 88, formerly of Brookline and Gloucester, passed away Aug. 16 at Allen House at Springhouse, Jamaica Plain. She was the daughter of the late William Wurts Harmar and the late Alice Longstreth Harmar formerly of Philadephia, PA. She was also predeceased by her brother William W. Harmar, Jr. and her sister Alice L. Harmar. She is survived by her daughter Josephine W. Devlin of Stoneham, MA, her son William W. Wolbach, Jr. of Gloucester, MA; also seven grandchildren: Luke Wolbach of San Francisco, CA, Ben Wolbach of Cohasset, MA, Anna (Wolbach) Ryan of San Rafael, CA, Brian Devlin of Wakefield, MA, Andrew Devlin of Jamaica Plain, MA, Carolyn (Devlin) Wilk of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Alexander Devlin of Stoneham, MA; five great grandchildren: Otis, June, Ella, Kaeden, and Fiona; and five nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wolbach grew up in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Springside School and Smith College where she was an American history major. She was a devoted and lifelong volunteer for many organization's and causes including: Smith College, Associated Day Care Services of Metropolitan Boston, the Ruggles St. Nursery School, the Women's Educational and lndustrial Union, the Quincy Homestead, the Emery Bag and the Home for Little Wanderers. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzler, scrabble and bridge player. She enjoyed golf, tennis, shelling, birdwatching, and painting, and the company of her canine companions. She frequented art museums and symphony concerts. She was determined but fair-minded, a strong competitor yet a compassionate and loyal friend, and all with a sense of humor. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 28 at the Parish of the Epiphany, Winchester, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, Watertown, MA. A private interment will be held at a later date in Philadelphia, PA.
