Former Grants Pass resident Thelma B. Griffith McCurdy-Smith, 85, of Davis, Calif., died Friday, April 9, 1998, at Davis.

On Oct. 4, 1913, in Olympia, Wash., she was born Thelma Inez Beagle, the identical twin of the late Helma Beagle Lindh. She moved to Grants Pass in 1919 with her family, and graduated from Grants Pass High School. In 1930, she married Don Griffith, who died in 1945. In 1948, in Medford, she married Lloyd "Pat" McCurdy. She and her husband owned a small orchard in Phoenix until his death in 1957. She returned to Grants Pass in 1972. She married John W. Smith in 1982. Upon the death of her husband, John, in 1995, she moved to Davis, Calif., to be near her son. She had been employed as an insurance agent and office manager in Grants Pass and Medford.
Her interests include reading, gardening and history of Josephine County.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Kolstad of Olds, Alberta, Canada; a son, Doug Griffith of Davis, Calif.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, a daughter, Althea, and two great-grandchildren died before her.
