Nan Sue was born in Seymour, Texas on December 23, 1923 to Otis and Eulene LaMerle Avary.
Nan attended school in Seymour and then went on to Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas. Nan Sue married her high school sweetheart, Linford "Jack" Arthur Rogers on April 27, 1942 while he was in the United States Air Force.
Nan Sue and Jack had three children, Linda Sue, Mike and Sam. They ranched with Linfords parents at Archer City, Texas until 1945 when they moved to northeast New Mexico to continue ranching with his parents.
Later, they moved to Taos, New Mexico where Nan Sue became involved in the art community which was an interest of hers for many years. Later they lived in Moriarty, NM where they owned and operated the Shade Western Bar. They moved to Santa Fé, NM where Nan Sue worked for the New Mexico Legislature and began her volunteer career with various non-profit organizations.
Nan Sue was a Santa Fé socialite, she enjoyed hosting parties and being active in Santa Fé community and culture. Upon retirement they re-located to Raton, New Mexico. Nan Sue later became an active member of the Governor's Mansion Foundation. Nan Sue returned to Santa Fé, NM in 2010 to live out the remainder of her life at El Castillo.
Nan Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Linford, a son, Sam and daughter, Linda Sue Rogers-Rutherford, her parents, her husband's parents and a sister, Norma Gayle Avary-Laughlin.
Nan Sue is survived by one son, Mike (Linda Kay) Rogers of Raton, grandsons, Reese (Jamie) three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Chloe and Graham of Highland Village, Texas and Jeremy Rutherford of Santa Fé, one sister, Patricia Kunkel of Olney, Texas along with nieces and a nephew, Surrogate Grandson, Joel Holt (Angela) children, Scott and Alex of Albuquerque, New Mexico and her closest friends, John Valdes and Everet Apodaca of Santa Fé, New Mexico.
Nan Sue loved gin martinis, Osteria and dancing Alley Cat across the country.

Cremation has taken place. With respect to Nan Sue's wishes, no services are be held. Nan Sue will be interred at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM with her beloved husband.
