Marshall LeRoy McLaughlin Sr.

Our loved one went peacefully to be with his Savior Jesus on May 25, 2015.

Marshall LeRoy "Marty" McLaughlin, Sr., born January 12, 1929 in New Smyrna Beach to Doc Oscar McLaughlin and Charlotte Louise "Cook" Pellicer McLaughlin. Minorcan ancestors landed in New Smyrna Beach as indentured slaves to Colonel Turnbull in the 1700's. The Minorcans escaped to St. Augustine and established the first settlement. Marty moved to DeLand in 1943. He graduated from DeLand High School in 1948. He was very active in sports and was named to DHS Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

Marty joined the Navy in 1948 right out of high school. He served four years and was on active duty in the Korean War. Returning home, he attended Stetson on the GI Bill. He went to work for Florida Power Corp and retired after thirty-four years.

Marty was predeceased by brothers D.O., Walter and AL, sisters Bennie Sykes, Katie Padgett, Marie Ball and Bessie Hawkins.

He is survived by wife of fifty-nine years, Frances; sons Roy (Cheryl), Mark and Matthew (Jackie); daughters Marsha and Loretta (Dan) Bridges; grandsons Marshall, Garrett, Dawson, Dylan and Dustin; granddaughters Matilyn and Brittany and one great-grandson.

The McLaughlin family owned Pixieland Nursery School and Lake Gertie Christian Academy for twenty-three years. Marty loved and enjoyed his family and friends, he was an avid fisherman and hunter, which he passed down to his children. He was one of the original owners of Scrubb Road Hunt Club, which he passed down to the grandsons.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 29th from 10-11am with the memorial service at 11am at the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand. The family especially wishes to thank Marty's caregivers at Florida Hospital DeLand for their dedication and faithful loving care.
