Ray grew up in West University Place, a small city enclosed inside Houston, Texas. He attended West University Elementary, Pershing Jr. High, and then Lamar High School. After Ray's mother passed away he lived with his father and step-mother in west Houston until he was an adult. Ray worked as a route salesman and delivery driver for construction companies and auto supply warehouses.
In 2003 Ray married Pamela K. Williams and they had a house in Alief, Texas until they moved to Luling, Texas in 2014.
Ray's health began to decline in 2014 and on May 31, 2015 Ray passed away suddenly while being driven home from the hospital after a major operation.
Ray is survived by his wife Pamela and his brother Lloyd Adams, Jr.
Ray is the fourth generation of his family buried in the historic section of Morton Cemetery, Richmond, Texas. He is near his mother and father, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and great great grandparents.
