Lloyd Cannon, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in St. George on May 28, 2015. He was 83.

Lloyd was born April 14, 1932, to Mildred Shakespear and Glenn Cannon. He was the third of five children. His great grandfather, David H. Cannon, was the St. George temple president for many years and was the same David in the true story of "David and the Sego Lily.

Lloyd's family home and farm were in Price Bench, now known as Bloomington. He spent a lot of his growing up years in Sand Town (northwest part of St. George).

As a young boy he worked hard on the family farm. He milked cows morning and night and also learned the art of and love for gardening. He loved supplying friends and neighbors with fresh produce from his garden, and was also proficient at home canning. He maintained a large prolific garden for as long as his health allowed. During school Lloyd was very active in sports, playing on the basketball and football teams and also boxing. After high school, Lloyd served our country fighting in the Korean War as a member of the 213th National Guard Field Artillery Battalion.

In August of 1950 the battalion was called into active military duty and went to Fort Lewis, Washington, to finish training before being shipped to Korea for active combat the following January. Lloyd was there for two years and fought on the front lines for sixteen months.

After returning home he attended Dixie Jr. College. Lloyd married Aileen Deanne Anderson in 1955 in St. George. They later divorced. Lloyd married Karen Scovil in 1961 in Las Vegas, NV. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake temple. They lived in Kearns, UT, until Karen's death in 1985.
In 1986, Lloyd married his school classmate and friend, Karla Thompson Moss. They lived in Kearns for a year before moving back to St. George.

Lloyd was a police officer in the St. George Police Department for a number of years. He was very skilled as a heavy equipment operator, and enjoyed that kind of work. He then became a truck driver, which took him across and around the nation many times. He worked for Utah Sand and Gravel for a long time in Salt Lake City. He also spent many years working for Hi-Land Dairy, first as a driver and later on, he worked at the plant itself repairing and maintaining Hi-Land's electrical equipment. He eventually retired from Hi-Land Dairy.

Lloyd worked with the youth in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in the Scouting program while his youngest son was growing up and before he moved back to St. George. He served in two Bishoprics. In Kearns, Lloyd was the first counselor to the bishop and in St. George spent five years as executive secretary to Bishop Mert Lovell. He loved every minute of his association with the members of the bishopric and ward members. He was a very social person and loved helping people. He enjoyed being a home teacher for many years. He was also an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple and especially loved and appreciated that calling.

He and Karla were thrilled to be able to serve a full-time mission to Adam-ondi-Ahman. Lloyd had many special experiences in his life, but a highlight was an experience with who he believed to be one of the Three Nephites. Lloyd loved his Heavenly Father and tried to serve him faithfully.

Being a farmer at heart, Lloyd had a great love for nature and growing things. He loved flowers and especially dark red roses. He was a very sensitive person and was interested in birds and animals. He loved to sit on the back porch and watch the birds. He was a very talented handyman, and could fix almost anything. He kept everything he owned well maintained. Lloyd was a very good dancer and appreciated listening to good music.

One of his favorite activities was 4-wheeling with his friends. He had a great loyalty to his large circle of friends and enjoyed visiting and getting together with them. He was interested in current affairs and was faithful about reading the newspaper each day and watching the news on TV every night. He listened to the radio when he was away from the TV, and was interested in politics and world news. His great love was sports and especially watching the Jazz and BYU. He went to all the college ball games, both football and basketball with his good friend, Jerry Empey. He kept up with players and teams from all over the nation.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Karla; son Kyle Cannon Krause (Leta) of Reno, NV; son Curtis Cannon Krause (Elaine) of Henderson, NV; daughter Jamie Bevilhymer (Richard, deceased) of West Jordan, UT; daughter Lori Pompei of Mesquite, NV; daughter Melanie Briggs (Cory) of West Jordan, UT; son Kevin Cannon of Salt Lake City, UT; stepdaughter Sandy Moss (Mike Shepard) of Prescott, AZ; stepson Jon Moss (Jodi) of Ivins, UT; stepson Larry Moss (Lisa) of Santa Clara, UT; stepdaughter Natalie Holt (Bruce) of Granite Bay, CA; brother Kay Cannon (Ann) of St. George, UT; sister Glenna Shafer (Wayne, deceased) of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
