MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Richard A. Biggs, 98, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Canterbury of Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Born Aug. 20, 1903, in Ridgeley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Elmer E. and Mollie Bischoff Biggs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Seibert Biggs, in 1989.

He was employed for 45 years as agency manager at Metropolitan Life Insurance.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Ridgeley West Virginia Lions Club.

He was a member of Robert White Lodge 67 AF&AM, treasurer of Martinsburg Rotary Club, served on the Martinsburg City Council, was former chairman of Martinsburg Parking Authority, former district manager of the American Red Cross receiving a certificate for 65 years of volunteer service, a former executive director of the United Way and a volunteer of the I-81 Visitors Center.

He is survived by two nieces, Mary G. Barrows of Dunedin, Fla., and Mrs. Albert Henning of Lawrenceville, Ga., and two nephews, Dr. John Biggs of Frostburg, Md., and Elmer E. Biggs of West Friendship, Md.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. G. Edward Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 220 W. Martin St., Martinsburg, WV 25401.
