Entered service, Jan. 16, 1918, from Akron, Ohio. Assigned to Company A, 332 Infantry, then to Company B, 324th Machine Gun Battalion, 83rd Division. The 324th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe, on June 11, 1918. Transfer in France to Company D, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Returned to the States, March 6, 1919, aboard the Leviathan, docking at, Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, on March 25, 1919. Discharged from the service, April 5, 1919, at Camp Mills, NY.
