J S Norris, 92, of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg, Texas.

J S was born on March 21, 1922, in Lone Grove, Texas to Katie Overstreet Norris and Samson Norris. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Llano. J S was self employed and was an avid reader of westerns and also loved to watch them on TV. He was a quiet, gracious and the sweetest man a person could ever know. The family spent all of their vacations camping and fishing on local rivers. He will be missed.

Survivors include his children, Beth Peak and her husband Gayland, Millie Schubert and her husband Charlie, Jimmie Norris and Willie Ray Norris all of Canyon Lake; grandchildren, Sarah Gaconnett, Tiffany Verrette, C.J. Schubert, J.C. Norris, Jay Norris, Jarred Norris, Ryan Norris and Desiree Norris; six great grandchildren; brother, Ernest Norris and his wife Meredith of Wolf City, Texas; sisters, Maxine Pickering of California and Mary Beth Stewart and husband Bill of Llano.

J S was preceded in death in his parents, Samson and Katie Norris; first wife, Maxine Crouch Norris; second wife, Florence Oestrieich Norris; son, Jay Norris, Jr.; brothers, Milton Norris, Damon Lee Norris and Roy Dale Norris.

A gathering of friends and family will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cranes Mill Cemetery in Canyon Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Church in the Wildwood located at 227 Charter Oak Dr.; Canyon Lake, TX 78133 and Hope Hospice in New Braunfels.

New Braunfels Herald-ZeitungJS Norris was raised on a farm in Llano County. He served in WWII in Army engineers helping to build roads and an airstrip in Europe until the war ended. JS worked for the pipeline for awhile until health issues forced him to quit. His occupation was excavation, operating heavy equipment. He was married to Maxine Crouch on Oct 20, 1950 until her death October 1987. They had 5 children and settled at Canyon Lake in Comal County (Texas).

After the death of Maxine in 1987 JS moved back to Llano Tx and was married to Florence Flint Oestreich in 1991? Florence died in 2000.JS returned to Canyon lake for the last 6 yrs of his like to be with his family.A kinder, gentler man was never known.
